Summary

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Julia Quinn comes the story of Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington, in the fourth of her beloved Regency-set novels featuring her charming, powerful Bridgerton family, now a series created by Shondaland for Netflix。

COLIN AND PENELOPE’S STORY

Penelope Featherington has secretly adored her best friend’s brother for 。 。 。 well, it feels like forever。 After half a lifetime of watching Colin Bridgerton from afar, she thinks she knows everything about him, until she stumbles across his deepest secret 。 。 。 and fears she doesn’t know him at all。

Colin Bridgerton is tired of being thought of as nothing but an empty-headed charmer, tired of the notorious gossip columnist Lady Whistledown, who can’t seem to publish an edition without mentioning him。 But when Colin returns to London from a trip abroad, he discovers nothing in his life is quite the same—especially Penelope Featherington! The girl who was always simply there is suddenly the girl haunting his dreams。 When he discovers that Penelope has secrets of her own, this elusive bachelor must decide 。 。 。 is she his biggest threat— or his promise of a happy ending?

Loved reading about more from the world of the Bridgertons。 This was probably my favorite of the series so far!

The plot was interesting at parts, and the dialogue, as always, was witty。 But a lot of the points of conflict were not believable and the character development was awkward。 Still, an entertaining, light read!

Hey, I'm old enough to just remember the bodice rippers of the late 70's (when I was too young to be reading them) so I can let slide some items。 However, this book was written in 2002。 Pen's my fav, but after this book I'm not too sure I want to read about Francesca and the rest of them, due to the author's writing。 Where Colin in the series comes across very noble and carrying, he is downright abusive to Pen in the book。 And she let's him be。 He finally pulls his head out of his orifice near the end of the book, but in the meantime, he's yelling at her, grabbing her, bruising her。。。this is how you should be portraying a man in love。 I gave it four stars due to giving Pen a story and having it "her" story instead of a Bridgerton story per se, but Colin is just portrayed as so very out of character that I almost didn't finish it。 I would go back and only give it 3。5 if I could。Also, I'm reading the versions that have the epilogues in it so I'm getting a bit spoiled on other books to come by reading them, which I think is just stupid and a money ploy to get more books。 I'm still torn if I will read the next in the series as each book has a piece that is hard to get over, which I won't go into here in case people have not read the previous books。 。。。more

I absolutely loved this book。 For starters, Colin is my favorite character because he is so funny and witty。 But I absolutely adored finally getting his story and the uncovering of Lady Whistledown!

I love how she infused both Penelope and Colin's characters with just the right amount of emotion necessary to bring life to their scenes。This was really a great story by itself but the audiobook just pushed it to another level。I also loved her rendition of Hyacinth Bridgerton as the all too cunning, busybody little sister who I couldn't help but smile at her huge personality and her over-the-top antics。This audiobook also contained the 2nd Epilogue with more of Colin and Penelope's journey and a sneak preview into Eloise Bridgerton's story!Overall, this was another A+ performance by Landor! If you'd like to read my full review of this book click here!HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! 。。。more

。。。more

I wanted to get to the book about Penelope。 I’m glad I did, it was entertaining, but I think this will be my last Bridgerton novel。 This felt like a good place to end for me。

This book had a couple off odd or unexpected issues。 The first being the fact that, despite this book being the first time we ever really see Penelope and Colin’s friendship, they felt weirdly trapped in it, like I could never believe they were really romantically interested in each other。 There was almost no chemistry and any time we’d get a description about how passionately in love Colin was with Penelope it felt jarringly out of place。 I just never bought it。 Colin’s temper was also jarring。 This book had a couple off odd or unexpected issues。 The first being the fact that, despite this book being the first time we ever really see Penelope and Colin’s friendship, they felt weirdly trapped in it, like I could never believe they were really romantically interested in each other。 There was almost no chemistry and any time we’d get a description about how passionately in love Colin was with Penelope it felt jarringly out of place。 I just never bought it。 Colin’s temper was also jarring。 He never felt like a cohesive character because he’d go from relaxed to enraged so quickly, and he was angry so much of the story it was hard to believe as it went on that Colin was generally a calm and charming person with his temper。 There were also issues with his level of anger as most of the previous men do have a lot of anger as well (seems to be a type the author likes writing which is fine) but to set his anger apart it felt like it got blown way out in some parts。 There were also pacing issues, like it felt like we read about them arguing about Lady Whistledown SO much and it was so repetitive and annoying。 Maybe it’s because I cared less about the romance here than in the last, but it was frustrating。 All in all it’s fine, but definitely one of the weaker ones in the series so far 。。。more

One of my favorites in the Bridgerton series thus far! I loved the character development for both of the leads and the existing drama made sense instead of seeming overwhelming。 Unlike the previous installment, this one gave so much more depth to the featured Bridgerton (Colin)。 The romance made sense and the story was enjoyable。 Will continue with the rest of the series。

Colin Bridgetown has never considered settling down。 In fact he prefers to travel。 Until one day he looks at Penelope Featherington and no longer sees the little girl she was 12 years ago。I am enjoying this series, the romance , the characters。 The author sets the scene beautifully。 The stories are very similar and I find it hard to believe that a lady would compromise herself but overall an enjoyable story。

Collin is my least favorite of the Bridgerton siblings but he redeemed himself by the end of his story。 I also have to say Penelope has been on of my favorite characters since the first book。 I knew she was going to be someone big in this series and I honestly love her more。
